Thesis

In the story of Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne implies that the title character succumbs to evil and temptation through the use of imagery and setting. In addition, the man that Goodman Brown meets in the forest represents the devil himself.

This is a good thesis, but readers are likely to see it as two separate theses rather than a single one. This is because the arguments presented in each of the sentences are not very related to each other. I would suggest taking out the second sentence and leaving the first as it is. The argument presented in the first gives you much more (the other gives you too little) to write about. Standing alone, either sentence could be a good thesis, but the first sentence would be much better.
